Satay refers to finely grilled marinated meat in skewers and served along with sauce. It’s very popular in Indonesia and Malaysia. I have replaced meat with paneer for a vegetarian version of the satay. The essence of this dish is in the marination.
Ingredients (Serves 2 to 3)
Preparation time – 30 mins Cooking time – 15 mins |
- Paneer – 250 g, cut into strips
- Peanut butter – 2 tbsp
- Balsamic vinegar / any vinegar – 1 tbsp
- Soya sauce – 2 tbsp
- Kashmiri red chilly powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – as required
- Olive oil – 1 tbsp
- White sesame seeds – 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice – 1 tsp
For dip
- Peanut butter – 2 tbsp
- Soy sauce – 1 tbsp
- Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
- Salt – a pinch
- Honey – 1 tsp
- Chilly powder – 1 tsp
Steps
- Mix everything to paste.

- Marinate paneer for 1/2 hour.

- Coat white sesame seed.

- Place in pan with oil drizzled and grill till all sides are cooked.

- To prepare the dip, boil 1/2 cup water, add 2 tbsp peanut butter.

- Add the other ingredients and mix everything in low flame till the sauce thickens.

Serve the paneer satay hot with the peanut sauce.
